On Sunday, November 19, I was honored to be among the panelists at an Advocacy Workshop, “Getting What You Need from your Public Officials,” held to teach people how to better communicate with their representatives. The Clemson Area League of Women Voters hosted the advocacy panel at Abel Baptist Church in Clemson.
I was asked to speak, along with Lynn Teague, the LWV State Vice President for Issues and Action; Lillian Brock Flemming, recently reelected to represent District 2 Greenville City Council; and Shelia Crawford, president of the Pickens County Chapter of the NAACP. About 60 people attended the event.
Our conversations focused on encouraging constituents to communicate with their representatives and follow local politics. It also included important conversations about the need for independent redistricting in South Carolina. This is absolutely vital, and it will be one of the key issues I take before the legislature in 2018.
During this time of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the work you do on behalf of District 3 and all of South Carolina, Clemson Area League of Women Voters!
